The weekend is here so support every one of your small businesses. Small Business Saturday is the most important American shopping holiday anywhere in #USA held on the Saturday after US Thanksgiving during the busiest shopping period.

This one is most important because Small Business Saturday was added to the Thanksgiving week calendar nine years ago to bring millions of customers into the small and local businesses that are the backbone of communities.

#SmallBusinessSaturday is an awesome opportunity support our favorite local restaurants, stores, museums and bait and tackle businesses that make our #CityIsland community wonderful and unique.

And a newer day worthy of your holiday shopping attention this weekend: Support your Museum Store Sunday along with your local Houses of Worship to give folks a chance to support local businesses, give back to the community through local nonprofit museums, support good causes, find unique holiday gifts and enjoy an entertaining and educational experience at favorite museums, all at the same time.

Why is Small Business Saturday important? Because customers across the country have reported spending an estimated $85 billion at independent retailers and restaurants. $85 Billion over eight days alone. Make sure our shopping habits are supporting those numbers locally!

American Express, which launched the buy local program in 2009, has done extensive research on the impact its program has had. It found that an amazing 67 cents of every dollar spent at a small business remain in the local community.

And like the gift that keeps on giving, for every dollar, we spent at small businesses it creates an additional 50 cents in local business activity as a result of employee spending and businesses purchasing local goods and services, according to the Small Business Economic Impact Study conducted by American Express.

City Images is conveniently located inside a building, which houses our local museum on City Island, a Slice of NYC Paradise.
