Networking Time

Submitted by ub on

Networking is when you decide to interact with a group of colleagues, peers or professionals to create relationships, contacts, connections, and possible opportunities for your professional career.

A new college graduate who I really and truly admire recently shared thoughts and some apprehension on their future job search.

My advice was to begin networking with a smile by asking individuals to get together for coffee or tea. Keep it short and sweet.

Dear XXX,

I really admire what you have achieved in xxx and would love to connect with you for coffee or tea and learn more about your career path to success.

While I understand how busy you are, I will make myself available to suit your schedule.

Please, kindly let me know what works best for you.

Best wishes,

XXX

I suggested to reach out to as many individuals whose personal and professional achievements they admire? Perhaps an expert in your chosen field, or someone whose career trajectory you can learn a lot from.

Take the time to think about a special vision for your life and who you can learn from to achieve it.

Ask to meet you and it could end up changing your life and opening up new career paths. Try it, you’ll like it!

Read and write as much as possible
Do not take yourself for granted
You are not your current job
Networking is about giving
Stay in touch with friends
Practice public speaking
Learn how to invest
Keep studying
Find mentors

There may be self-doubt, fears, tears, frustration, and uncertainty on your journey, but please know it will be worth it!
