Event: Steve Coll and Neil Irwin on “The Alchemist” and Winner of $2,000 Essay Prize Announced

Please join us on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Columbia University in New York as Steve Coll, Dean of the Columbia Journalism School, interviews former Knight-Bagehot Fellow Neil Irwin about his new book, The Alchemists: Three Central Bankers and a World on Fire. The event will also feature the presentation of a $2000 prize to the winner of the 1st annual Women's Economic Round Table essay contest, open to all Knight-Bagehot Fellows (current and former). The winning entry, about the press and public policy, will be published by the American Institute for Economic Research. Prospective applicants for the 2014-2015 Knight-Bagehot Program are encouraged to attend, and will find details about applying for the Fellowship at www.journalism.columbia.edu

Event: Advanced Media Training

Andrea McCarren, a veteran multimedia journalist and 15-time Emmy Award-winner, will offer an advanced media training class in the National Press Club’s Broadcast Center. This hands-on workshop is for anyone who wants to improve their presentation skills on camera or online. Through practice interviews, you’ll learn:
-How to craft and deliver meaningful sound bytes
-How to be more comfortable and confident on camera
-What to wear and what not to wear
-Tricks of the trade from Andrea’s 30 years of experience in television news
A makeup artist will help prepare you for your on-camera work. After the training session, each participant will be able to access their practice interviews online. Class size is limited.
