HAPPY NEWS YEAR

It’s time to have a little News Year’s fun. Not with depressing news videos, but with some worthwhile thoughts, expressions and feelings.

This collection of fun, unusual, picturesque and unique videos were produced by my good friend John Hopkins, who is Jack of all trades and a true romantic for everyone who wishes to be inspired. Speaking of romance, here's a photo from Paris, the city of love and lights.

Please get ready to celebrate 2014, if you are not already doing it by now!

GUN SHOTS, EXPLOSIONS... ECT.

There was another loud explosion tonight in Pelham Bay Park. Local resident Nancy Lunnie Jones says she happened to be at the scene by chance picking up her son from a friend's house. She says windows were blown out of houses. The 3 story brick home her son was in shook violently. She goes on to say "We are not strangers to fireworks in these neighborhoods. EVERY person was out in front of their houses. I've never seen that happen."

Just another day near paradise? Over way too many years, bomb blasts and powerful explosions have frightened residents by blowing open locked doors, cracking ceilings and breaking more glass windows than too many people have grown tired of counting.

NYPD blasts, rapid-fire shooting and mushroom clouds have appeared over City Island as millions of bullets are fired and hundreds of thousands of fireworks are disposed of.

For more than 50 years, the city police have been conducting firearms training, detonating bombs and destroying illegal fireworks on Rodman's Neck in Pelham Bay Park, less than a mile from City Island.

Colorado opens the first global recreational pot industry, kicking off an international pot experiment. Marijuana retailers are expecting nearly $600 million in annual revenues.

MUSIC TERRORISM?

We are referring to this year's passing fad “Harlem Shake”. This fading phenomenon was as faddish as any possible viral videos. The words to Harlem Shake began "With the Terrorists".

As is turns out this thing came out of nowhere, it seemed to pop up everywhere for about two months, and thankfully it quickly disappeared.

This meme made a name for electronic producer Harry Bauer Rodrigues, who is best known by his stage name, Baauer. Once out of obscurity, he made history as the first viral video to hit the top of Billboard’s Hot 100.

In the past two days dozens have been killed in Russia. The latest killed 10 when an explosion ripped through a trolleybus in the second deadly blast in the Russian city of Volgograd, according to the Interfax news agency.

These explosions come a day after a suicide bomber killed at least 17 people in the main railway station of the southern Russian city.

The countdown is on with 40 days before Russia holds the Winter Olympics in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi.
