Singer, songwriter, and record producer R Kelly is convicted by a jury in New York on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking
Following a six-week trial. the jury returned its guilty verdict in a Brooklyn courtroom on Monday afternoon, after less than a day of deliberations. Kelly sat motionless as the convictions against him were readout.
11 survivors testified against R. Kelly before he was found guilty of leading a sex crime ring following two and a half decades of accusations. This is the first sex abuse trial with a majority of black accusers.
The jury of seven men and five women, convicted Kelly of racketeering and eight violations of an anti-sex trafficking law after nine hours of deliberations in federal court in Brooklyn, after beginning its deliberations Friday afternoon.
Kelly faces the possibility of decades in prison. Attorneys for Kelly say they are considering filing an appeal and are disappointed in the verdict.
