Passover Memories

As I rub the mezuzah on my front door, it reminds me of an annual holiday. This object is actually a piece of parchment, called a Klaf, with specific verses from the Torah that is then placed inside a mezuzah case, which is then affixed to the doorposts of a Jewish home. The mitzvah (commandment) of the mezuzah is one of the core practices of Jews across religious observance and belief.

I have a mezuzah that was gifted to me by one of my rabbinical students at Touro's Lander College for Men, where I taught classes on communication skills. Here is a story I wrote about one of my guest lecturers who spoke to my students about communications.

Passover, also called Pesach, is a major Jewish holiday that occurs in the spring on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan. One of the biblically ordained Three Pilgrimage Festivals, Passover is traditionally celebrated in the Land of Israel for seven days and for eight days among many Jews in the Diaspora, based on the concept of Yom Tov Sheni Shel guyot.

Passover begins Saturday, March 27 at sunset (today) and ends Sunday, April 4 at nightfall
