Reinvention Through the Everyday: A Bronx Council on the Arts poetry workshop with Bronx poet Bonafide Rojas. Bronx native and poet Bonafide Rojas will lead this workshop and combined book presentation for his latest title “RENOVATIO,” from Grand Concourse Press. He will discuss how reinvention and renovation have allowed him to not only survive, but to thrive under demanding and challenging circumstances. Bonafide will share his approaches and methods and will share the newest poems created by his alchemical assembling of language. This workshop and combined book presentation will include time for participants to write and share their own original material. Flyer.

NASDAQ NOSEDIVE?

The Nasdaq Composite Index sank 3.1 percent yesterday. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 2.1 percent and gold jumped 1 percent to $1,318.30.

Nasdaq fell the most since 2011 as technology selloff continues. Tech shares were lower this morning, as Internet and social media shares led by Yahoo, Facebook and Twitter dropped at the opening bell. Yahoo YHOO -0.87% shed 2.4% in early trades, while Facebook FB +0.27% gave up 2.3% and Twitter TWTR -1.40% slid nearly 4%.

The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP -0.18% fell 1% to 4,019, on track to end the week down more than 2%.

100 DAYS IN OFFICE

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio has been in office for 100 days and some New Yorkers are not sure he is doing the best he can, while others wonder what happened to all the promises he made and all the talk about a tale of two cities.

He is the first Democratic mayor of America's largest city in a generation, and gave his report card speech at Cooper Union, the location where Abraham Lincoln announced his presidential campaign in 1860.

PENNSYLVANIA STABBINGS

22 were stabbed during a high school rampage near Pittsburgh today. The stabbings occurred outside Franklin Regional High School injuring 22 in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.

A 16-year-old student holding two knives went on a stabbing rampage in the hallways of the Pittsburgh-area high school early on Wednesday injuring over twenty people.

POT OF GOLD?

The existing marijuana laws on the books in Colorado and in Washington state may evolve into an $8 billion business by the year 2018., according to Marijuana Business Daily, which predicts half of the retail sales will represent recreational use and the other half will for medical use.

This forecast is five-times the increase over figures previously projected. These estimates are based on a US Justice Department hands-off approach, in states where legal use of marijuana is available for recreational, or through medical prescriptions.

Beware of Heartbleed Bug

CODENOMICON, is a Finnish security firm that discovered a dangerous cyber bug and warns that a security flaw in Heartblleed one of the most serious uncovered in recent years, exposing millions of usernames.

The Heartbleed Bug is a serious vulnerability in the popular OpenSSL cryptographic software library. This weakness allows stealing the information protected, under normal conditions, by the SSL/TLS encryption used to secure the Internet. SSL/TLS provides communication security and privacy over the Internet for applications such as web, email, instant messaging (IM) and some virtual private networks (VPNs).

The Heartbleed bug allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. This compromises the secret keys used to identify the service providers and to encrypt the traffic, the names and passwords of the users and the actual content. This allows attackers to eavesdrop on communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users.

Since before many of us were born, in fact back in 1941 comic book fans have been following the exploits of a red headed All-American teenager named Archie Andrews and all his friends.

There is now word that in July, we'll all find out how he dies. Did you know he was from The Bronx?
