35th Annual News and Documentary Emmy® Awards were announced by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The News & Documentary Emmy® Awards were presented last night at a ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in the Time Warner Center in New York City.

The event was attended by more than 900 television and news media industry executives, news and documentary producers and journalists. Emmy® Awards were presented in 43 categories, including the first-ever categories reserved for news & documentary programming in Spanish.

Thousands of pro-democracy protesters in the streets of Hong Kong early have vowed to keep up the pressure on The People's Republic of China pro-Beijing government, which is calling this action illegal and plans to press ahead with National Day celebrations.

October 1 marks the beginning of celebrations of the anniversary of the Communist Party's foundation of the PRC back in 1949.

Anyone else who ties the knot with their girlfriends, or fiancees. Take it from this veteran spouse, who recently celebrated one year of another marriage, after "Living in Sin" for 10 years, as the some religious or conservative folks, including my late aunt would call it.

Catalonia Defies Spain

The president of Spain's powerful northeastern region of Catalonia is calling for an independence referendum. This is the latest secession push in Europe and one of the most serious challenges to the Spanish state in recent years.

Journalist Justine Demirkol Maldonado, who now lives in Bercelona tells City Images "I think it's a far shot, especially after Scotland but the nationalistic sentiment sure makes waves."

Wall of sound silence

Imprisoned impresario Phil Spector has not reportedly spoken in prison for over nine months.

According to prison officials, the man behind pop music's “Wall of Sound” is silent. Spector produced some of the 20th century’s greatest music including The Beatles seminal album Let It Be lost the use of his voice nine months ago and is in a “very dangerous” situation in prison.

He was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison in May 2009 after being convicted for the murder of actress and cocktail waitress Lana Clarkson.

Human beings closest genetic cousins are said to be the apes. Some are capable of empathy but others resort to violent actions, destruction and ruthless killing.

Our social behavior can best be compared with two species of apes: chimpanzees and bonobos, which look like smaller, more upright chimps.

Despite their physical similarities, the two species behave very differently. Bonobos live in a relatively peaceful matriarchy; when conflicts do arise, instead of fighting they often use sexual activity to resolve them, defusing the aggression with friendly physical contact.

Ted Williams becomes last player to hit .400. On this day in 1941, the Boston Red Sox's Ted Williams plays a double-header against the Philadelphia Athletics on the last day of the regular season and gets six hits in eight trips to the plate, to boost his batting average to .406 and become the first player since Bill Terry in 1930 to hit .400. Williams, who spent his entire career with the Sox, played his final game exactly 19 years later, on September 28, 1960, at Boston’s Fenway Park and hit a home run in his last time at bat, for a career total of 521 home-runs.

Reporter Judith Miller released from prison. On this day in 2005, New York Times reporter Judith Miller is released from a federal detention center in Alexandria, Virginia, after agreeing to testify in the investigation into the leaking of the identity of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame. Miller had been behind bars since July 6, 2005, for refusing to reveal a confidential source and testify before a grand jury that was looking into the so-called Plame Affair. She decided to testify after the source she had been protecting, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, signed a waiver giving her permission to speak.
