WATER ON MARS

During a news conference at NASA headquarters today, agency scientists and officials discussed new findings from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) that provide the strongest evidence yet that liquid water flows intermittently on present-day Mars.

Using an imaging spectrometer on MRO, researchers detected signatures of hydrated minerals on slopes where mysterious streaks are seen on the Red Planet. These downhill flows, known as recurring slope lineae (RSL), often have been described as possibly related to liquid water.

With a new cold war type handshake, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Barack Obama started their first formal meeting in a couple of years, a no holes barred discussion about deep differences over the chaos in Syria.

These two leaders met after they outlined their contrasting visions for Syria's future in dueling speeches at the United Nations General Assembly. Obama urged a political transition to replace embattled Syrian President Bashar Assad, while Putin warned it would be a mistake to abandon the current government.

It is probably safe to assume that as an avid reader, we are guessing that you are a supporter of public libraries, and you believe books are something very special for the future of our global society.

Even so, it's a mistake to think all readers are also book-lovers that feel the same way and are created equal. Some of us came to reading later in life, and others were gulping down books as soon as we could piece together sentences.

The Holy Father has left The Big Apple. The Pope toured Habana, Cuba, as well as Washington, DC, New York City and finally Philly today and tomorrow, where The Pontiff when he wraps up his whirlwind American tour replete with with peace and spirituality. He addressed US Politicians, world leaders, but it is obvious that his preferred flock are those, who are marginalized, the poor and the under-served.

And for those political pundits who criticize The Pope, who is asking us all to care for each other and to do unto others, CITY IMAGES says, its high time to get with the program.
