As a young man, I went to college, earned my advanced degree, first married and my two lovely daughters were born in Miami.

This coastal city was founded by a woman named Julia DeForest Tuttle a successful businesswoman who owned the property upon which Miami, Florida, was built. For this reason, she is called the "Mother of Miami." and is the only woman to be the founding mother a major American city.

On April 22, 1970, 20 million people across the world celebrated the very first Earth Day. Their message was sparked by the power of the anti-war protests of the 1960s, and events that brought the issue of the environment and its vulnerability to ecology to the forefront.

The Northeast News in Kansas City sent a powerful message by running a blank front page and asking readers to consider a future without a local news source. 

The message was loud and clearly sent that Democracy not only dies in darkness but also if local news is allowed to diminish.

An alarming global analysis of subsidence, relative sea-level change, and coastal flood exposure report has been released.

Climate-induced sea-level rise and vertical land movements, including natural and human-induced subsidence in sedimentary coastal lowlands, combine to change relative sea levels around the world’s coasts. Although this affects local rates of sea-level rise, assessments of the coastal impacts of subsidence are lacking on a global scale.
