Happy News Year

Submitted by Admin on

What a strange, and surreal year it's been as it finally ends with an additional second as if we wanted to hang on to it longer.

After all the weird things that occurred, why not have some fun New Year's Eve as you kick 2016 right in the keesters. If you're going out, know that many cities are bolstering security, especially in the light of the most recent deadly truck attack in Berlin.

Adios, 再見, Goodbye to people of all backgrounds, creeds, and cultures who celebrate and honor the tradition of seeing off the past year and greeting 2017.

Yearning for 2017?

While this leap year was certainly one for the history books, some fear what will happen next year. The fake news cycle generated by hatred and vile turned 2016 into a horror film version of the X-Files.

2016 has been insanely good in some instances but also very bad, but despite the denialists, it's the year that made climate change undeniable.

The Cold War rivalry between the United States and Russia has lasted for much of the second half of the 20th century resulted in mutual suspicions, heightened tensions and a series of international incidents that has brought the world’s superpowers to the brink of disaster.

One of the most famous mother-daughter celebrity teams is gone, but not forgotten. The actress and legendary Hollywood entertainer, as well as the mother of Carrie Fisher, has died at age 84.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded at 1:02 p.m. PT to a medical aid request and transported her to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Just days after her daughter Carrie Fisher's death, Debbie Reynolds, star of stage and screen including ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ also dies at 84 http://variety.com/2016/film/news/debbie-reynolds-dead-dies-carrie-fish… via @variety

CYBERSECURITY

We have passwords for your smartphone and laptop, but what about our lifesaving devices like pacemakers or insulin pumps? The federal government released official guidances on medical device cybersecurity steps.

Have a way to monitor and detect cyber security vulnerabilities in their devices.

Understand, assess and detect the level of risk a vulnerability poses to patient safety.

Establish a process for working with cyber security researchers and other stakeholders to receive information about potential vulnerabilities known as a “coordinated vulnerability disclosure policy”.

LALALAND CHRISTMAS

My daughters and grandkids live in The Southland, where holiday season traditions are not tied to things like building a snowman, or chestnuts roasting on an open fire. However, cozying up with a loved one is still very much alive.

While some folks try to trick themselves into that White Christmas feeling with yard decorations, from big light displays to blow-up in Santas in LA lawns covered in blankets of fake snow. Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus and the love he shared, with family and friends.

Washington's Farewell

“Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. But that jealousy to be useful must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defense against it.” US President George Washington's Farewell Address in 1796.
