Today, NYC Councilman James Vacca and the City Island Civic Association are protesting NY Mayor Bloomberg’s proposed budget cuts which could result in the closure of 20 fire companies citywide, probably including City Island’s Ladder Company 53, as early as July 1, 2012.
Although FDNY has yet to disclose the specific companies on the chopping block, City Island’s only ladder company has been slated for closure during the past four years.

The subject in focus is The City Island Arts and Crafts Fair. This popular and regularly scheduled event is an opportunity for local shop owners, organizations and area-wide business men and women to sell their merchandise to tourists and locals alike.
City Island Images is proud to announce walking tours of City Island and surrounding areas.
Our small tour groups will meet @ the last stop on the #6 SUBWAY, Pelham Bay Station. We will then take the #29 Bus to City Island, where we will begin our journey. Depending on the tour and dates, our stops will include Pelham Cemetery, City Island Historical Society/Museum, The Old Schoolhouse, PS 175, Yacht Clubs, Restaurants, Galleries, Shoppes, Orchard Beach, Pelham Bay Park, Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum. We will finish at the end of City Island Avenue and return to Pelham Bay Station #6 SUBWAY.
