Thanksgiving is the time to show our sincere gratitude for all our blessings. Thanks, for family, friends, mother nature, food, the wind, rains, brother sun, sister moon, for our health and last but certainly not least, for the good earth we must continue to love.

FOUR FREEDOMS

Submitted by ub on

—Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in his Third Inaugural Address, January 20, 1941

In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms.

The first is freedom of speech and expression -- everywhere in the world.

The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way -- everywhere in the world.

The third is freedom from want -- which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants -- everywhere in the world.

LIVING LONGER

Submitted by ub on

As an educator, I have found that female students are overall smarter than their male counterparts. They are also better classroom participants.

Now we are told that ladies manage to live longer and enjoy life. Why do women live longer than men in almost every country in the world? A similar pattern of sex differences in longevity is also found in many other species; however, it is not clear if there are more species in which females live longer or vice versa.

Thanksgiving Feast

Submitted by ub on

Nearly 50 million Americans are traveling for Thanksgiving. Many could run into weather trouble, with major storm systems delivering everything from snow and ice to thunderstorms. Once they arrive, the last thing anyone needs is an extra serving of any type of holiday dinner difficulty.

As a result, experts are warning not to allow CampPain or 2016 Election talk to control this year's Thanksgiving. Please eat your fillings and swallow your feelings to avoid all political topics. Love and peace of turkey.

Loser Winter?

There is definitely a no win in the fact that one month before the official season begins, part of the nation is blanketed with snow. Winter is not supposed to begin until December 21. That is unless you love long northern winters.

You Have a lot of Gall

Submitted by ub on

Not me since I had my gall bladder removed earlier this year and lost 30 lbs. Here is my one and only proof, other than the mounting hospital bills.

I wish I had gall, and since the gall bladder contains bile which I'm told is very bitter that gives rise to the use meaning "you've got a lot of bitterness/rancor". And as one of my neighbors like to say "In any event".

WEATHER ADVISORY

Submitted by ub on

The National Weather Service has issued an NYC Wind Advisory citywide which goes into effect on Sunday, November 20 beginning at 6:00am until Monday, November 21 at 6:00pm.

The advisory has been issued for sustained winds of 25 mph to 35 mph and gusts in excess of 50 mph. During periods of high winds, residents should use caution when walking or driving high profile vehicles.
Winds at these speeds can cause flying debris, turn unsecured objects into projectiles, and cause scattered power outages.
