Congress Inaction

Submitted by ub on

The US Congress is supposed to be back in action today, but don't hold your breath for many actions.

This is one of the reasons why voters should also be cleaning The House and The Senate on election day.

With weeks away from the danger of another government shutdown, the Republican leaders are not leading much.

The seven-week vacation should indicate to most intelligent Americans that a change has got to come from the top and all the way down to local government fat cats who say but do not do anything for the people they are sworn to represent and protect.

THE DEATH OF NEWS

Reflections of a Grade B Reporter

Since being offered the post of Grade B Reporter by the BBC in 1964, Martin Bell has spent more than half a century in the unquiet corners of the world, including four years in the surrogate war zone of the House of Commons.

It has been a period of rapid change in the way that wars have been fought and perceived, and of equally rapid change in the way that news has been gathered and presented. From Vietnam to Bosnia and beyond, the former BBC correspondent has been in the thick of it.

SAINT OF THE GUTTERS

Her face is one of the most recognizable in the world and many recognize the "Angel of Mercy" image while never realizing what she was doing was good for so many people and is still revered by millions today. She has been called saint of the gutters and The Pope, as bishop of the slums.

My late father, who died around the same time as Mother Teresa did 19 years ago used to say he admired three women during his lifetime. His mom, Maria Teresa, my mom Margarita and Mother Teresa. Although these three special ladies have passed, they will never be forgotten.

OUR CLOTHES

The clothing of the future could cool off our bodies, thanks to plastic wrap? Stanford University scientists have invented a material that actively draws heat away from the body, hoping that its cooling effect could reduce reliance on devices such as air-conditioning.

Help Me, I'm Angry

Submitted by Admin on

I received an email and a phone call from two angry people who claimed they wanted to talk, but did not want to listen to the voice of reason. I always thought that a true conversation was a two-way communication and not a monolog.

I get it, at one time or another, everyone feels anger bubbling up. There's nothing wrong with that. Anger is common. It's a normal response when you sense a threat or a possible slight. I tried to address their concerns, but to no avail. So to them and all who feel angry.
