The Bronx Borough President supports the creation of a business improvement district (BID) for the neighborhood of Westchester Square. In addition, Bronx Community Boards #10 and #11, as well as the Bronx Borough Board have both voted unanimously to support the creation of the BID.

New Bronx Playground

NYC Council Member James Vacca will join P.S. 83 students and faculty to unveil a new playground at the Morris Park school funded in part with a $200,000 grant Vacca secured through the City Council.

The much-needed upgrade ― which includes a new play structure, benches, a kickball diamond, a two lane running track, and a basketball hoop, as well as line games such as hopscotch, Skelly, a jump zone for jump rope and an alphabet and number grid ― was designed and built by the organization Out2Play.

A Barnes and Noble in The Bronx was crowded with interested parents, as distinguished educator and author of "As Bad as They Say - Three Decades of Teaching in The Bronx' Janet Mayer read from her bestselling book and took questions from her audience at a free educator reception held this afternoon at Barnes and Noble in Co-Op City.

The Bronx veteran teacher, who has well over 30 years of experience took time to speak about her experiences and outlined special programs using NOOK is the school System.

Orchard Beach Celebration

Katelyn Toro and her pooch were just two of thousands of participants, who gathered at Orchard Beach this morning as a benefit celebration to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

It was virtually a sea of pink as the group walked walked across the beach to celebrate life after breast cancer. There was dancing, music, along with a 5K walk.

A musical program to benefit the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in April will be held at Good Shepherd Church in the Inwood section of Manhattan.

Tenor Salvatore Chiarelli and soprano Elga Johannes, accompanied by William Glazier on piano, will sing classic Italian songs, opera arias, sacred songs, Spanish-American songs and other pieces.
