According to published reports, Eclipses occur because the moon’s orbital path intercepts what astronomers call the ecliptic—the apparent path the sun takes through our daytime sky. Crucially, it will do so while seeming smaller in the sky (because it’s at apogee). It will therefore block only the center of the sun, causing an annulusor ring around the new moon.

The orca or killer whale Orcinus orca is a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family, of which it is the most prominent member.

Sea lions are pinnipeds characterized by external ear flaps, the ability to walk on all fours, short and thick hair, and a big chest and belly. Together with the fur seals, they comprise Otariidae, eared seals. Sea lions have six extant and one extinct species in five genera.

December sixth is Saint Nicholas Day, the third-century saint who was an inspiration for the modern-day Santa Claus.

St. Nicholas is known for selling all his possessions and giving his money to the poor. Raised as a devout Christian, St. Nicholas dedicated his whole life to serving the sick and suffering.

Saint Nicholas Day is the feast of the 4th-century bishop of Myra. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of Russia and Greece, of a number of cities, and of sailors and children, among many other groups, and was noted for his generosity.
