Everyone should work to master the art of listening. If you tend to zone out when someone else is speaking, or you notice that people don't often choose you as a confidant, it's time to start practicing the skill of listening.

Taking an active, engaged approach to listening improves your relationships and enrich your personal and professional experiences. Learn how to listen with undivided attention and respond in a way which indicates that you were actually listening. This will undoubtedly engage others.

Filling the seat left open by the death of Anthony Scalia has now turned into a partisan fight. Judge Neil Gorsuch was officially nominated to the US Supreme Court last night with GOP delight, but over 10 months after the Democrats were blocked and failed to fill the seat with Judge Merrick Garland.

Senators say they have doubts about President Donald Trump's nominee and the legal process will just have to wait and see.

The chief White House strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, has told the press to “keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while.” The press should listen and maybe will listen---to History.

The battle between Bannon and the press may have an interesting parallel from 283 years ago. Back in January 1734, John Peter Zenger was accused of seditious libel for printing in his weekly newspaper, the New York Journal, strong criticisms of the British governor of New York, William Cosby.

A Quebec City's mosque shooting during evening prayers has killed six people and injured eight. It is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

Officials say gunmen opened fire during the attack which the mosque's president, Mohamed Yangui, described as "barbaric".

Ballet Intensive

I usually don’t tend to promote specific arts programs in my writing to try and avoid favoritisms, but I do want to highlight this exceptional summer intensive program through the Bolshoi Ballet Company. Bolshoi ballet is known for it “Colorful and bold” styles accompanied by traditional and Russian techniques. Some of the few dancers to come out of and work for their company include Maria Alexandrova, Ekaterina Krysanova, Dmitry Gudanov, and David Hallberg.

US Civil Liberties

A federal judge has granted an emergency stay to temporarily allow people who landed in this country with a valid visa to remain. The New York district court judge bars The US from deporting travelers with valid visas covered by Trump's executive order.

District Court Judge Ann Donnelly ruled in favor of a habeas corpus petition filed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The federal judge blocked Trump from deporting people here and detained at US airports.

Trump will be calling Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President François Hollande Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, and last, but not least, the Bromance intensifies as Trump calls his hero Russia's Vladimir Putin.
