DIVISIVE US

Submitted by ub on

Deconstructing the politics of divisiveness finds a democratic form of government tearing itself apart and it appears to be getting worse with time.

Instead of laying out their individual platforms, politicians continue attacking each other, their parties and the media. Divisive is the new form of inclusion when it comes to camp pain, or poly ticks.

Did you know this is the 75th anniversary of the best known all-American trickster. The one and only Bugs Bunny.

This animated Warner Brothers wise-cracking bunny with a NYC accent got his official start in 1940’s

The film “A Wild Hare” was only the beginning and since then, he’s trounced, out-talked, and outwitted a host of flamboyant but hapless opponents including Yosemite Sam, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, the Tasmanian Devil, and Elmer Fudd.

VOTING RIGHTS ACT

Submitted by Admin on

This week marks the very important and serious 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. But its not all peaches and cream at the polls. By 1965 concerted efforts to break the grip of state disfranchisement had been under way for some time, but had achieved only modest success overall and in some areas had proved almost entirely ineffectual. The murder of voting-rights activists in Philadelphia, Mississippi, gained national attention, along with numerous other acts of violence and terrorism.

Finally, the unprovoked attack on March 7, 1965, by state troopers on peaceful marchers crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, en route to the state capitol in Montgomery, persuaded the President and Congress to overcome Southern legislators' resistance to effective voting rights legislation. President Johnson issued a call for a strong voting rights law and hearings began soon thereafter on the bill that would become the Voting Rights Act.

NEGATIVE NEWS OVERDOSE?

Why is so much negative news being reported these days? There is lots of work that needs to get done to turn this world around, but news by definition is the exception. There is no news in the fact that hundreds of airplanes took off and landed safely from an airport. Unfortunately, the news develops when an airplane crashes. CITY IMAGES is making an effort to balance the negative information.

New York's elected officials are playing political games and the public's health may suffer. NYC Mayor and NY Governor were not speaking directly, while BBP told the press all hands on deck. OK, but what bout our lungs? What the hell is going on folks. WTF Do you believe this crap?

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo called into NY1 and spoke with Roma Torre about Legionnaires’ Disease, among other topics. Audio of the Governor’s call in is available here, and a rush transcript of the interview is provided below:

DEBATE BS METER

According to The Associated Press, there were several questionable moments during last night's debate. It appears that US may need a truth meter because there are going to be many more of these debates in the coming months.

Possibly this is stated this way because understating the state of affairs, here may be a defensible assessment of the seriousness of the stakes. The future of the country and of the free world. To be personified and settled by people in politics, business and health care who are evenly spaced apart inside a TV studio situated on the edge of the political precipice.

DOUBLE DIGIT DEATHS

One hundred infected and ten dead from the Legionnaire’s disease outbreak in New York City that local politicians, who are crafting their own downfall are still claiming the deadly disease has reached its peak and that cases will likely decline in the upcoming weeks. This is not only a medical emergency folks, but it is also an infrastructure crisis: The reason this outbreak occurred is a failure to care for the buildings New Yorkers live and work in.

I LOVE LUCY

Today in 1911, Lucille Ball was born. She was best know as Lucy Arnaz and was responsible for some of the most memorable moments in early television, and even today, sixty years after the premier of I Love Lucy, small-screen aficionados recognize the genius in such moments as the "Vitameatavegamin girl" and Lucy stuffing her cheeks with chocolate as the candies rolled off the factory belt too quickly.

ISSUES AND ANSWERS

The first debate of this election cycle is one of the most anticipated. The Internet is buzzing with some of the questions many American voters want answered, ranging from the serious, the confrontational, the random and the downright outrageous.

As the presidential candidate debates kick into high gear, CITY IMAGES poses a series of questions we would like these politicians to answer:
