Tis the Season to be jolly, pleasant and kind. Be kind to your family, friends and neighbors, but please do not forget our troops. Somewhere on a desolate post in Afghanistan, Iraq , Korea...etc. American troops are thinking longingly of home.

Unfortunately, there are not enough people who are thinking of them this holiday season. So please take the time and send "care packages" to our service members overseas. Also, remember the sick and the homeless, who may be temporarily down on their luck.

FLU SEASON PREVENTION

This week is National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW)! NIVW and is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance and benefit of continuing flu vaccination through the holiday season and beyond. Vaccination into and after the holidays is not "too late.” Flu season typically peaks in January or February, so get vaccinated now to protect yourself and your loved ones.

HollyTrolley- BCA’s Culture Trolley Saturday returns on December 10th with an afternoon of free trolley rides, attractions, free giveaways, including a number of exhibitions, interactive games, dance and craft workshops, a benefit comic book sale, and a holiday craft sale by bronxArtworks artisans. NYC Department of Education wants to shut down 12 schools, including a scandalized South Bronx high school that’s under investigation for fudging course credits.

Funding for Hunts Point Market

US Congressman Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) applauded the announcement by Governor Cuomo that Hunts Point Terminal Produce Cooperative (also called the Hunts Point Market) will receive $29.5 million to modernize its facility through the New York City Regional Council’s plan to grow the economy and create jobs in New York City. An advocate for Hunts Point Market, Crowley recently called on U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Ray LaHood to swiftly approve a critical transportation infrastructure grant for the Market.

BRONX CHRISTMAS

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. lit The Bronx’s official Christmas tree for 2011 in front of the Bronx County Building on the Grand Concourse. The annual tree lighting ceremony featured Christmas carols by Cardinal Spellman High school’s ‘Gospel Sensations’ and The M.S. 390 Chorus.

Borough President Diaz celebrated the tree lighting along with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. Feliz Navidad, Santa!
