STATE SENATOR KLEIN BBQ

While we still keep strong the memory of those we lost on September 11th, some of us also don’t want to forget to stop to say THANK YOU to our first responders like you; not only for what you did on September 11th, but also for your continued commitment to protecting our safety in the face of constant danger.

In this spirit of thanks, please join me and your local veteran groups for a special event, my first annual:

GET BACK TO WORK AFTER LABOR DAY

OK- It's now time to get back into the swing of things, so let's take a cue from The Beatles.

January of 1969, The Beatles were a mess. The recording of an album tentatively titled ‘Get Back' was meant to be returning ‘back to basics' revisiting to their roots, but problems among The Beatles escalated and culminated in the great George Harrison's walking out on the band.

National anniversaries are very difficult to resist fo media outlets. These stories are evergreen, but in documenting the 10th anniversary of those horrific Sept. 11 attacks, there must be a fine line observed between commemoration and perceived exploitation. Mindful of this possible misinterpretation, City Island Images wishes to focus our special coverage of this anniversary on issues like how much our readers can share, and how such a solemn occasion should be viewed as a specially sensitive opportunity.

Did you also know that one of the most time-honored fashion traditions is to retire your white clothes after Labor Day. Most historians think this maxim stems from class divisions at the turn of the century when lightweight clothes were a symbol of the leisure classes.

NYC Councilman Jimmy Vacca on This Labor Day Weekend

As we approach Labor Day, let us spend time with our families and make time for ourselves. But, Labor Day is really about recognizing working men and women and the contribution they have made to our country. They have been strengthened by unions that have long fought for worker rights. With both unemployment and under-employment too prevalent today, we should use this weekend to focus on how we can create more and better jobs!
