The first officially named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season is a cyclone and it has a wide reach. It has drenched the southeastern U.S. moving swiftly up the East Coast and bringing the threat of weekend flooding as far north as New England.

Andrea made its way up the US East Coast, dumping rains from North and South Carolina to as far north as New England. The storm is delaying hundreds of flights. Andrea shed its tropical characteristics but still remained a threatening storm with heavy rain and high winds.

Longtime City Island resident, Dr. Eric Sanderson, PhD offered a lecture on past present and future Manhattan at Bartow-Pell Mansion's Spring Luncheon this afternoon.

Sanderson referred as far back as 9/12/1609, when this area was known on a map as zone 221 - Central Appalachian Broad Leaf Forest, which was then considered grassland and sparsely inhabited by 1000 different plant species, along with Lenape Indians, who were also known as Delaware People.

Latin music legends, also known as Salsa Royalty appeared in the Bronx to pay tribute to El Ciego Maravilloso, while a significant portion of Dawson Street was finally renamed in honor of Cuban salsa singer Arsenio Rodríguez.

The music maestro, who was was known “the Blind Marvel,” Rodríguez was one of the founders of the conjunto style of Cuban music, which mixes conga drums, keyboards and horns.

Rodríguez was born in 1911, moved to the Bronx in the 1950s and became a staple in nightspots including the Tropicana and Hunts Point Palace. He died in 1970.

The Newseum is offering visitors a new exhibit The Washington, D.C. institution has announced the opening of “Anchorman: The Exhibit,” timed with the release of “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” later this year.

This exhibit explores the reality behind the humor of ‘Anchorman’ and tracks the rise of personality-driven news formats in the 1970s.

Costumes and original props from the movie will be on display, and the exhibit will feature a replica KVWN-TV anchor desk where visitors can pose.

The exhibit will open in November and remain on display until August 2014.

DNA is now the new fingerprint, according to The US Supreme Court. The justices ruled that police are now allowed to collect DNA evidence from people they arrest, equating the procedure to standard practices as common as fingerprinting.

The high court ruling was 5-4, but not your usual 5-4. In this 5-4 vote, The US Supreme Court ruled that police officers can take DNA samples without a warrant from people they arrest for any serious crimes without violating the Fourth Amendment.
