NYC Weekend Bridge and Street Closures

The Brooklyn Bridge will be fully closed Manhattan-bound from 12:01 am to 7 am Saturday. One of three Brooklyn-bound lanes will be closed from 6 am to 2 pm Saturday to facilitate NYCDOT bridge maintenance.

The southbound FDR Drive exit to the Civic Center/Pearl Street will be closed from 12:01 am Saturday to 6 am Monday. Access onto the Brooklyn Bridge is not affected. Motorists destined for local streets should use the prior South Street Exit 3 and follow posted the detour to Pearl Street.

Retired NBC correspondent George Lewis says that " Aside from the fact that the primary source for the 60 Minutes Benghazi report was a liar, McClatchy News says there are plenty of other problems with the story. McClatchy, by the way, was the outfit that cut through the BS on the non-existent weapons of mass destruction in Iraq."

Many folks are angry at The White House as a result of the affordable care act website breakdown. President Obama now says he dropped the ball and people deserve a better deal and offers a band aid solution with extra year for health insurance.

The US affordable health care program is a mess and getting worse. The president has serious credibility, political and operational problems after offering to fix to temporarily fix the problem of canceled health insurance policies by saying insurers don’t have to cancel plans next year just because of the Affordable Care Act.

WINTER WONDERLAND?

The cold weather is still with us, but it's warming up. However, drought affecting the NYC region continues to keep moisture away.

Forecasters say a high pressure will remain centered south of the tri-state region through Friday.

A weak cold front crosses the area Friday night, followed by high pressure building down from the Canadian Maritimes into Sunday. A warm front approaches from the southwest

Sunday night, then lifts through the area Monday morning, quickly followed by a cold front late Monday. Canadian high pressure then builds in through the middle of next week.

JOBS FOR NYC's POOR

The Partnership for New York City has issued it's NYC Jobs Blueprint, which outlines a set of recommendations for collaborative actions that the public and private sectors might take to insure that NYC remains a strong, inclusive city of opportunity.

These recommendations focus on five key areas: more and better jobs; better educated and skilled workers; infrastructure that provides greater connectivity and accessibility; a safe and affordable living environment, and an efficient, disciplined and well-run city government.

We're officially in "The Season."

The season when the social calendar is overflowing with events, conferences, seminars, parties and all kinds of gatherings which involve all of us meeting and greeting many people from various backgrounds, religious beliefs and different cultures.

Lots and lots of different people. And often, all at once. If even thinking about being with lots of people makes you want to stay home and take a nap, you're not alone.

That's because as much as one third to a half of the population considers themselves introverts.

NEW YORK CITY IS BACK ON TOP

It's official - One World Trade Center, which rises above the lower Manhattan skyline in New York City is the tallest building in the USA. It measures 1,368 feet without its decorative spire, which adds 409 feet making it 1776 feet tall.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, which is the official arbiters of all things architectural, says that the 409-foot antenna atop 1 WTC counts toward the building's full height.

11/12/13 WEDDING?

No, but Mr. and Mrs. Roberto and Yirong Soto, both "Mussel Suckers" hope you enjoy their City Island wedding video nevertheless.

Their wedding day could've been celebrated on 11/12/13, a day which will never ever come again, like many first dates, but they didn't want to wait.

They are delighted they did not wait for many reasons, especially because it's way too cold today!

City Island, NY has a New England-type culture that makes it seem much different from other parts of New York City. A native City Islander has been called a “clam digger” (or “clamdigger") since the early 1900s. A non-native City Islander is called a “mussel sucker.”
