Hundreds turned out to Fordham University, which was the place to be today. It was the first ever Bronx Health & Wellness Summit. The Bronx Borough President's Office put together a full agenda that offered something for everyone.

At the summit, you could learn how your health coverage will change with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, how to effectively continue medical care for your children, how mental health issues are handled to ensure public safety, or which classes college students can take to pursue a career in healthcare, the borough's number one employer.

City Island Images is deeply disheartened and dismayed by the arrests of our elected officials this week. This is truly a sad time for The Empire State.

We urge all of you to contact your elected officials and tell them how you feel and stress the importance of working hard to restore the faith and trust that is necessary to keep them in elected office serving US.

100 YEARS OLDS

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. will host the borough’s third centenarian celebration to pay tribute to Bronxites who are or will turn 100 years old in 2013.

This Bronx Week event salutes seniors from throughout the borough in recognition of their remarkable longevity as upstanding members of the community. If you have any Centenarians that would like to attend this event please call Ms. Larcenia Walton, Director of Senior Services at 718-590-6248 to inquire. The event will be held on May 9th at 11am, The Villa Barone Manor, you have to rsvp for this event. Invitation is for the centenarian and one guest, any additional guest there will be a cover charge of $30 per person.

WE DONT NEED NO EDUCATION?

Would you be upset by a decision that occurred at your job, where a senior level executive position was given to a person who did not meet the minimum educational preparation requirements and whose direct reports were required to hold advanced degrees?

Most would be offended to have to meet the minimum requirements for positions, but that the senior level executive does not.

My question is that if there are internal candidates that qualify for the minimum requirements, can a position be filled by a person who does not meet the required educational preparation?
How can someone with a bachelor degree evaluate reports that have a masters?

I agree that on the surface it sounds sketchy. How indeed can one be the boss when all the direct reports are far more educated than the boss is? But, you're confusing two issues: Doing and managing. In this person's case, they did neither very well!

What is the message the organization is sending. Want the American dream? Don't go to college!

Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum

BUILDING COLLAPSE KILLS DOZENS

A residential structure that was being built illegally on forest land in a suburb of India's financial capital collapsed, killing at least 45, including 11 children and injuring more than 50 others, according to local authorities.

The eight-story building in the Mumbai suburb of Thane caved in last night. Since then, rescue workers using sledgehammers, gasoline-powered saws and hydraulic jacks have been struggling to break through the tower of rubble in their search for survivors.
