Amid “deeply troubling” evidence of continuing violence in Syria and following a recommendation for the establishment of a United Nations supervision mission there, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says the situation on the ground remains highly precarious, despite the Government’s stated commitment to cease all violence.

“The past few days, in particular, have brought reports of renewed and escalating violence, including the shelling of civilian areas, grave abuses by Government forces and attacks by armed groups,” Mr. Ban told reporters at UN Headquarters in New York.

Just in case you were one of the many local citizens who happened to look twice to make sure you were seeing correctly, City Islander Jim Mullarkey has now accepted the delivery of three of his proudest vintage automobiles.

Jim says he is selling his 1925 Ford 4Door for $50K and adds that it took him three years to restore this beauty. He has others for sale.

Earthfest 2012: Pond Walk begins!

Help out taking the first steps in developing an accessible Pond Walk at the Playground for All Children!

Join along at the 19th annual EarthFest celebration in Pelham Bay Park on Sunday, April 22nd to give back to the planet and tend to this small but vibrant water body.

Friends of Pelham will join Parks & Recreation staff from 10 am - 12 noon to clear brush and cut back shrubs along the pond's edge as well as remove some of the silt build-up and increase the pond's depth.
