The Associated Press has spent more than three years tracking the nearly 1,500 Capitol riot cases brought by the Justice Department.

AP reporters have reviewed hours of video footage and thousands of pages of court documents. They have sat through dozens of court hearings and trials for the rioters who descended on the Capitol and temporarily halted the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory.

In 1846, five New York City newspapers funded a pony express route through Alabama to bring news of the Mexican War north faster than the U.S. Post Office could deliver it. And The Associated Press was born.

The AP and philanthropy share an interest in ensuring the public has access to accurate news about issues that threaten our society, whether a pandemic, economic turmoil, climate change, or inequality. This mission has never felt more urgent.

No organization does more to advance the power of facts. Working with foundations, AP believes it can do so much more.
