Napping on an iceberg is a fine way to celebrate anyone's birthday. “Ice Bed” is a lovely choice for the mood.
What gets me about this image is the ordinariness of it: the bear digs a hollow, settles in, and goes to sleep, like anyone fluffing a pillow. Polar bears do dig day beds in snow to shelter from wind, so Mr. Sarikhani caught a real piece of his routine. Days of fog and then a shot like this is the kind of patience that pays off once in a lifetime.
This is tender, but it only works because the ice is there, and that’s what gives it its quiet weight.
I hope this day is as unhurried as the bear’s. Chillin 😎 on a Monday is the best birthday plan there is. No itinerary, no pressure, on my own little iceberg.
Wishing this day ends well, and if you feel like reaching out, whether that’s a text, chat, or something to look at while I lounge, I should be around. Today… Happy birthday to me.
Here’s a funny one to share with animal lovers.
The rabbit says to the polar bear and the dragon, “Listen, I don't really want to go to war. Can you two just kick me in the leg so that when I go in and see the doctor, I've got a limp?” They say, Sure, but can you do the same when we come out? We don't want to fight either.”
The rabbit agrees and the bear and the dragon kick him in the leg. It's a good kick. The rabbit only just manages to keep himself from falling over and crying out. And when he goes into the doctor's office, he's indeed noticeably limping.
The doc takes one look at him and says, “Nope, military can't use you. Not with that leg.” Sends him home.
When the rabbit comes out, he returns the favor and kicks the bear and the dragon in the leg. Unfortunately, however, the bear and the dragon are big and the rabbit is a rabbit. The kick doesn't even hurt. The rabbit tries kicking them again harder, tries punching, biting, even hitting them with one of the waiting room chairs. By the time the they get called in for checkups, the rabbit has spent a good 10 or 15 minutes beating them all over. And he's at most managed to give them a light little nosebleed.
Sadly, they thank him for doing what he could and head in to see the doctor.
The doctor takes one look and says, “Nah, can't use you, mates.” They are thrilled but surprised. Why? Because of a bloody nose?” And the doctor says, “No, because that nurse over there just said she saw you two getting your asses handed to you by a limping rabbit.”
