Broken Heart Tragedy

What is broken heart syndrome? The condition is scientifically known as Takutsubo cardiomyopathy and it can become deadly.

Takutsubo cardiomyopathy, also known as broken heart syndrome, is a temporary heart condition that can be brought on by extreme emotional or physical stress.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy or Takotsubo syndrome TTS, also known as stress cardiomyopathy, is a type of non-ischemic cardiomyopathy in which there is a sudden temporary weakening of the muscular portion of the heart. It usually appears after a significant stressor, either physical or emotional; when caused by the latter, the condition is sometimes called broken heart syndrome.

The family of Uvalde teacher Irma Garcia now is also mourning the death of her husband Joe, who had a heart attack after visiting her memorial. They say he died of a broken heart. The latest development is that donors have reportedly rallied together to raise more than $2.5 million via #GoFundMe for the family of Irma Garcia, the Robb Elementary School teacher who was killed during Tuesday’s mass shooting and whose husband, Joe, died just two days later.

A media colleague and good friend of mine had both his parents die within days and it's believed that the second one passed away from a broken heart.
