Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ, God's Son, who came to Earth as a Savior to offer humanity salvation from sin through His life, death, and resurrection, fulfilling ancient prophecies and demonstrating God's love, in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew.
Christmas is about Jesus, the son of God, entering human history to bring hope, peace, and eternal life, a message announced by angels to shepherds.
So what is really going on here on Earth? Jesus' birth in Bethlehem fulfilled Old Testament predictions, such as Isaiah 7:14, marking the arrival of the promised Messiah.
-
God's Love:
It's a celebration of God's profound love for the world, shown by sending His only Son (John 3:16).
-
Good News:
The angelic announcement to the shepherds proclaimed "great joy for all people," a message of peace and hope.
-
Luke 2:11 (NIV):
"Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
-
John 3:16 (NIV):
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Christmas celebrates the historical birth of Jesus as the promised Redeemer, the beginning of God's plan to save humanity from sin and offer them a relationship with Him.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem to Mary, the Virgin. In the Gospel of Luke, Joseph and Mary travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem to be counted in a census, and Jesus is born there and placed in a manger. Angels proclaim him a savior for all people, and three shepherds come to adore him. In the Gospel of Matthew, by contrast, three magi follow a star to Bethlehem to bring gifts to Jesus.
When will the angelic promise of peace on earth, goodwill toward all men, women, and children be fulfilled?
