CONGRESS WISH LIST

Submitted by ub on

What are the priorities once the new Congress takes control of the US House of Representatives and The Senate?

Beyond affordability, health care, corruption, voting rights, immigration oversight, and making Congress work better, I’d add a few priorities to the wish list:

  • Prevent wars and strengthen diplomacy, with clear congressional oversight of military action.
  • Protect Social Security and Medicare and make long-term funding plans.
  • Build more housing and tackle rent, childcare, and utility costs.
  • Set clear ethics rules for public officials, including conflicts of interest and financial disclosure.
  • Safeguard election administration and peaceful transfers of power.
  • Invest in disaster readiness and resilient infrastructure, while speeding up recovery aid.

The trick is turning a wish list into a short set of measurable bills voters can judge lawmakers

Restore press freedom protections by immediately strengthening oversight of federal agencies

Make it possible for US citizens to petition the government with signatures.
