EVERYONE'S IN A HURRY

Submitted by ub on

Every time I drive my car or sit in the passenger's seat, I am amazed by the wacky drivers who drive by at a high rate of speed.

Then only to stop at the next traffic light and wait to do the same thing all over again.

Why's everyone in a hurry these days,
rushing to put a down payment on their tombstone?
Engines roar, tires scream,
but where are they really going?

I sit behind the wheel,
or sometimes just watch from the passenger’s side,
amazed by the madness,
the blur of headlights and bravado,
as they fly by like death has a deadline.

Then we all meet again,
lined up at the same red light,
like actors in a tragic comedy,
waiting to speed toward nowhere once more.

What’s the rush?
Is life not happening right here,
in the space between the green lights?

Slow down.
You're moving way too fast.
You’re not late,
you’re just lost
in a race no one wins.
