A father can claim success when he has his children seeking love and advice, and not financial support.
I’m therefore successful and delighted that my adult kids are not depending on DaD bank and have their nest eggs.
There comes a time in life we must shut it down so our grown children to find their financial footing.
Mine came when they were 18 and at my divorce proceedings, I told the judge that I was turning over everything I owned to their mother.

Today they send me a great gift on Father's Day. The last one was an air purifier, with plenty of use, especially with COVID-19 and the current smoke from the Canadian fires.
It’s not up to us to cover our adult offspring’s bills and yet nearly half of American parents reportedly do it
Not only are almost 40 percent of the parents forking out money, but the average financial support for household necessities like groceries, cellphones, and rent or mortgage payments is over $1K monthly.
My dad was a SI man. He was Strict, Structured, Supportive, and had plenty of INTEGRITY.
Strict
Only Spanish is spoken inside the home.
He was the boss and Mom was the co-boss.
Structure
His three sons made their own choices, as long as expectations were met.
Guided us through how things can be done better.
Expect us to do things, even when it was difficult.
Supportive
He gave us the right to their point of view.
- Respect their privacy.
- Don’t make constant corrections in their actions or speech.
- Let kids know they can turn to you for help.
- Spend quality time with them.
- Engage in compassionate activities together.
Not everyone can afford to give their kid money to learn about investing. But he nurtured our talents in other ways that didn’t cost money: analyzing, discussing, and debating choices, treating us like grown-ups, not agonizing over failure, and staying out of politics. Oops.
When my parents came to America, they became social workers, They taught us about compassion and how to handle adversity with resilience and creativity.
I realize now that most parents don’t expose their kids to sad truths, but mine did it by surrounding the pain is so much hope. They focused on all the good we could do and bring to others.
