HOLLYWOOD ON STRIKE

Submitted by ub on

Hollywood actors join screenwriters in the first joint strike in more than six decades, shutting down production across the industry.

The Screen Actors Guild voted to strike after failing to reach a deal with studios by yesterday’s deadline.

This is the first time in 63 years that two of Hollywood’s largest unions strike simultaneously.

Hollywood writers have been on strike for over two months, and studio bosses are reportedly hoping to end it by dragging negotiations out until union members go broke.

This one is going to hit close to home. I have been an AFTRA member since I was co-anchoring a television program in Miami a few decades ago. Then, the Union merged with SAG and I had my big moment on the silver screen playing a journalist on a major motion picture. All I will say is that I enjoyed the experience, especially the pay.

They say it ain’t over till the fat lady sings, but what about the fat pig? Porky is not a lady, but the show won’t go on for a while, folks.

Striking actors will begin picketing alongside writers in a fight over the future of Hollywood

It’s the first strike for actors from film and television shows since 1980. And it’s the first time two major Hollywood unions have been on strike at the same time since 1960 when Ronald Reagan was the Actors’ Guild president.
