Donald J Trump has been charged by the US Justice Department for efforts to overturn his 2020 presidential election loss.
Trump was indicted on felony charges Tuesday for working to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the run-up to the violent riot by his supporters at the U.S. Capitol, as the Justice Department moved to hold him accountable for his efforts to block the peaceful transfer of power.
The four-count indictment reveals new details about a dark chapter in modern American history, detailing handwritten notes from former Vice President Mike Pence about Trump's relentless goading as well as how Trump sought to exploit the violence of the Jan. 6, 2021 riot to remain in office.
Even in a year of rapid-succession legal reckonings for Trump, Tuesday’s criminal case, with charges including conspiring to defraud the United States government that he once led, was especially stunning in its allegations that a former president assaulted the underpinnings of democracy in a frantic but ultimately failed effort to cling to power.

Psychiatric professionals say Trump needs to be secured so that nobody can hear dangerous comments. He gives permission to unstable people to carry out their grievances at a murderous level. This is not just because violent people believe his lies, but because they are following Trump's stated practice of striking back with any means available when he feels cornered.
Meanwhile, as one keeps stalling USA DOJ, another Republican Party candidate finally said it out loud to the GOP and the truth always hurts.

In 2008, Mr Smith went overseas to The Hague in the Netherlands where he oversaw war crimes investigations as a junior investigator for the International Criminal Court.
Jumping Jack Flash now wears two hats overseeing separate criminal investigations into a former American president, but Jack Smith is no stranger to bringing high-stakes cases.
Over the past two decades, Mr. Smith has gone to Washington several times, so this is not his first rodeo. But the 54-year-old must realize this is more like a shit show. He goes after guilty public officials in the US and abroad - with a mixed record of success.

The veteran prosecutor has kept a low profile since he was appointed special counsel in the two investigations of Donald Trump by the US Department of Justice.
In announcing his selection last November, Attorney General Merrick Garland called him "the right choice to complete these matters in an even-handed and urgent manner".
Trump meanwhile has called Smith a "deranged" man at the forefront of a "political witch hunt" against him. The special counsel has now indicted the ex-president on 40 felony counts over his alleged mishandling of classified documents. He is also expected to charge Mr. Trump separately over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
A Harvard Law School graduate, Smith began his prosecutorial career in 1994 as an assistant district attorney in the Manhattan district attorney's office. We've not seen the former guy’s college transcripts, but he reportedly has a long history of doing stupid things to show off and trying to make himself look smart and very rich, then lying about it and ripping people off.
Over the next decade, Smith climbed up the ranks of the US attorney's office in Brooklyn, where he pursued violent gangs, white-collar fraudsters, and public corruption cases.
How big are Donald Trump's legal problems?
Smith once spent a weekend sleeping in the hallway of an apartment building so he could convince a woman to take the witness stand in a domestic violence case, according to reports from The Associated Press AP.
