Kamala Harris is the presumptive Democrat candidate for President of the United States. Our Florida Bureau reports folks celebrating.
VP Harris has received 2,668 pledged delegates. 1,976 are needed to become the Democratic nominee. This means Harris has all but secured the nomination for president.
She always fights for the people – from her barrier-breaking time as District Attorney of San Francisco and Attorney General of California to proudly serving as a United States Senator and Vice President.
On January 20, 2021, Kamala Harris was sworn in as Vice President – the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American to be elected to this position.
As Vice President, she has worked to unite people to advance opportunity, deliver for families, and protect fundamental freedoms across the country. She has led the fight for the freedom of women to make decisions about their bodies, the freedom to live safe from gun violence, the freedom to vote, and the freedom to drink clean water and breathe clean air. While making history at home, she also represents the nation abroad – embarking on more than a dozen foreign trips, traveling to more than 19 countries, and meeting with more than 150 world leaders to strengthen critical global alliances.
The Vice President has been a trusted partner to President Joe Biden as they work together to deliver life-changing achievements for millions of Americans. Together, they have invested in the economy to create a record number of jobs and keep unemployment low. Their work has led to more small business creation in two years than any previous administration.
President Biden's full statement:
My Fellow Americans,
Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation.
Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We've made historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We've provided critically needed care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed the first gun safety law in 30 years.
Appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. And passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today.
I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a once in a century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We've protected and preserved our Democracy. And we've revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.
It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.
I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision.
For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.
I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can't do - when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America. Joe Biden

The VP should not say who she is picking until she is officially nominated and chosen.Mitt Romney or Liz Cheney would be brilliant and so would VP Pence who could get the sane GOP votes but it’s unlikely that these Republicans would be the chosen ones..
Who Would Kamala Harris Pick as Her 2024 Running Mate? Gavin Newsome, Josh Shapiro, or Other Governors, AOC, who will be 35 October 13, also former First Lady Michelle Obama or Andy Beshear, would be great. https://people.com/kamala-harris-possible-running-mate-vp-candidates-86…
However, a white guy would be much easier to swallow for people holding their noses that don’t want to vote for Agent Orange.
The act of framing and messaging is what helps leaders to appreciate, and feel secure in, the impact and implications of their choices. Time to kick off the campaign of a lifetime.
