LOWER TEMPERATURES

Submitted by ub on

As the political landscape continues to heat up with election, at home during the colder months lower the temperature to around 70.

Saying that we should be monitoring our heating bill and watching the thermostat on our heater is probably a no-brainer. But having it working on most of the day can equal an expensive charge. If you want to stay warm and cozy inside but don't want to be surprised with a big expense, there are a variety of factors to consider.

  • Why does the house feel colder than the thermostat setting?

There can be several reasons for your home to feel colder than the thermostat setting. Check the battery on your thermostat to ensure it's working properly. Check the air filter and ensure it's clean, look for a lack of insulation, and issues with the furnace as well as the ductwork.

  • What thermostat setting is too cold for below-freezing temperatures outside?

Although water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, it's a good idea to keep your thermostat at 50 degrees or higher. Setting your thermostat lower than 50 degrees puts your pipes at risk of freezing.

  • Is it bad to turn the heat on and off throughout the day?

It's best to keep the thermostat at a set temperature. Instead of turning it off and on, consider reducing the temperature by a few degrees.
