On May 4, 1970, four people died, and nine others were injured when National Guard soldiers opened fire on the Kent State University campus during a mass protest. 

Forty-five years ago today, the Ohio National Guard fired on unarmed student protesters at Kent State, killing four and seriously injuring nine others. The horrific massacre is regarded as a historic moment of public unrest during the Vietnam War. Below is Newsweek's report from the May 18, 1970, issue.

To mark the somber anniversary, Kevin Tibbles speaks with the man who snapped one of the iconic photographs of the time, as well as the man in it.
