An Indian family is expelled from Uganda when Idi Amin takes power. They move to Mississippi, and time passes. The now-adult Indian daughter meets and falls in love with a Black man, and the respective families are forced to come to terms with it in the climate of racial hatred.

Mississippi Masala is a 1991 romantic drama film directed by Mira Nair, based on a screenplay by Sooni Taraporevala, starring Denzel Washington, Sarita Choudhury, and Roshan Seth. Set primarily in rural Mississippi, the film explores an interracial romance between an African American man and an Indian American woman. 

The film was released in France on 18 September 1991, in the United Kingdom on 17 January 1992, and in the United States on 5 February 1992. The film grossed $7,332,515 USD at the box office
