U.S. Census Bureau statistics may change your mind about the safety where you and your family lives.

The map isn’t tracking things like crime rates or car accidents. Instead, it measures the threat level in every census tract of natural disasters, like earthquakes, fires, floods, severe storms and more.

The Community Resilience Estimates (CRE) Viewer shows the social vulnerability in the United States in the event of a disaster. Using restricted microdata from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) and small area modeling, the CRE creates population estimates based on ten individual/household level components of social vulnerability, including: poverty status, and the number of caregivers.
