NYC SNOW DAY

Submitted by ub on

A major winter storm is intensifying across the Tri-State area, with heavy snow dumping a few inches per hour across the NYC area,

New York City schools are closed today, including the university where I teach 50 students in The Bronx.

Due to anticipated inclement weather conditions, all in-person classes and activities are canceled for Tuesday, February 13, 2024. In-person instructors will notify students about adjusted schedules and course formats. Online classes will meet as scheduled.

Non-instructional employees should make every effort to work remotely. Those employees who are unable to do so should consult with their supervisor.

All Mercy shuttle services will be suspended. Food services for residential students will continue as scheduled at Hudson View Café and Herald Square Café, and all essential services personnel will report as required.

The band of snow is reportedly disrupting travel along the Interstate 95 corridor. A Nor'easter will bring strong winds and heavy snowfall from the central Appalachians through southern New England today which could damage trees, and power lines, and disrupt travel.

Coastal flooding is expected along portions of the East Coast. A storm will move into the Northwest Wednesday, bringing areas of heavy rainfall to the coastal ranges, and heavy snow to the Cascades.

Before the storm, NYC public schools shifted to remote learning for the day, but are experiencing technical issues with services that require authentication to log in.  When teachers tried to take attendance, they received an alert saying that their request could not be processed.
