OFF THE CHARTS

Are US Charter schools slowly dismantling and surely destroying the American public educational system?

While public schools serve the local community by accepting all local students who enroll, charter schools are selective and only serve a small segment of students. They also tend to be more racially segregated than traditional public schools and often fail to serve students with special needs.

charter school is a school that receives government funding but operates independently of the established state school system in which it is located. It is independent in that it operates according to the basic principle of autonomy for accountability, that it is freed from the rules but accountable for the result.

I have been teaching dozens of young college students this semester and I fear that the system is failing students and American taxpayers.
