THREE AMIGAS

Submitted by ub on

When I was a little boy, my older siblings, cousins, and their co-conspirators liked to taunt me by calling me an old monkey.

I realize that we must all learn to believe in ourselves and invest in our abilities to constantly and consistently persevere.

The following is a powerful reminder that our skills and abilities, not just titles or positions, are the foundations of our success and security. This resonates deeply with the idea of personal empowerment. It also highlights the value of constant growth and adaptability, especially in an unpredictable job market.

The emphasis on communication, leadership, and problem-solving is spot-on for anyone who wants to thrive, regardless of their job or title.

Our pay grades or jobs are not our security.

A great salary doesn't mean we're safe.

A fancy title doesn't protect us.
Even top performers get dropped in cutbacks

The many skills we build.
The knowledge and wisdom we get
The hands-on experience we earn.
These are superpowers we gain

Learn to sell ourselves and people will be excited about our ideas.
Show others why our solutions matter.

Master communication skills

Tell stories that make people want to listen.

Break down big ideas so anyone gets it.

Build systems
Make messy things run smoothly.
Design stuff that works without you there.

Observe patterns
Notice changes before they're obvious.
Jump on opportunities while they're fresh.

Help solve problems
Fix things others complain about.
Look for what's broken, not just what's noisy.

Lead by example
Step up when others step down.
Help people win, don't just tell them what to do.

Stay curious
Pick up new skills before we need them.
Learn stuff that scares us a little.

An employer can replace us.
Our education, and skills are ours forever.
That's the real safety net.

These have greatly aided me in my career journey.

Which skills should we be building right now?
