RIP CHARLES OSGOOD

Submitted by ub on

Charles Osgood, a CBS Newsman fantastic anchorman, and a longtime "Sunday Morning" host, dies at 91 years old.

A boy from The Bronx did plenty of good throughout his life. Osgood spent 45 years with CBS News, including 22 as the host of "Sunday Morning,"

He died at his home in New Jersey on Tuesday. He was 91. My old Today show colleague and now  "Sunday Morning" host Jane Pauley looks back at his incredible life and legacy. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/charles-osgood-cbs-news-veteran-and-longt…

Jane Pauley hosts a special broadcast, "Remembering Charlie," celebrating longtime "Sunday Morning" anchor Charles Osgood, who died this week at age 91. Featured: Osgood's reminiscence of his childhood in Baltimore; Rita Braver on his stellar broadcasting career; Anthony Mason on Osgood's love of music; Martha Teichner on Osgood's role as CBS News' "poet-in-residence"; Mo Rocca on the anchor's fashion for bowties; Ted Koppel on his friendship with his former ABC News colleague, dating back to the early 1960s; and from the archives we present Osgood's profiles of artist Keith Haring, "French Chef" Julia Child, and singer-portraitist Tony Bennett.  https://www.cbs.com/shows/video/7cuxyHe_6ILWhuL9EQJqgvEWlRYElI2I/

On a personal note, while working as a news producer for TODAY, I was asked by the Executive Producer whom I recommended to sit next to Jane Pauley. I immediately said Osgood. The E-P chose Bryant Gumbel instead. See you on the radio, Good man. For my money, and just personally speaking, Charles Osgood was the second-best anchor/reporter in broadcast history.

After learning of his death, I didn’t know what to do next, then the song below played on the radio, and I immediately felt better. Charles was simply the best, just like Walter Cronkite. Thank you both for being in my life as journalists and role models. Some say simply he was the best - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC5E8ie2pdM
