RIP FERNANDO MACIAN

Submitted by ub on

We learned about the death of our beloved friend and City Island neighbor Fernando Macian-Juan, M.D., Ph.D., and professor.

Fernando was a popular member of the Einstein Institute for Aging Research and Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center, an associate director of the Medical Scientist Training Program, and a pioneering scientist in his fields of immunology, cancer, and aging research.

Dr. Fernando Macian was 56. He died Monday morning after valiantly battling a long illness. We send our deepest condolences to his loving widow, Dr. Ana Maria, who was just named a distinguished visiting professor at Einstein College of Medicine.

Our family is saddened to know that we will not see Fernando again around City Island with Ana Maria. Our encounters were always happy occasions commenting on some random sports or cultural events. We offer our prayers and deep condolences to his committed wife Ana Maria who was with Fernando during his fight for life every every step of the difficult way.

I met Fernando and Ana Maria shortly after moving to City Island decades ago. The couple were always friendly, discreet, soft-spoken, and very professional. Fernando, rest in peace, and may God bless your soul.

Also, Ana Maria, may you find the strength to continue with a beautiful life and your incredible professional career. Please let me know if you need anything during these difficult days ahead. Your friend always!

Fernando and Ana Maria were both born in Valencia Spain, met in medical school, and were married in the same city my late father held near and dear to his great Gallego heart.

¡Amigosiempre!
