Last week, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced that 200,000 households have been randomly selected via lottery for the city’s new Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) waitlist. Section 8 HCV is a federally funded program administered by NYCHA that provides rental subsidies to low-income families to rent apartments in the private market.
Lottery applicants are currently being notified via email as to whether they made the waitlist, with hard copies of their notifications being distributed by mail in the coming weeks.
Those lucky enough to have been selected will be able to create an online profile and track the status of their application by logging into NYCHA’s Self-Service Portal.
Selected households will then be contacted regarding next steps in the application process, which includes submitting all necessary documents, including proof of income.
