SOCIAL MEDIA?

Unfortunately, social media has certainly changed our lives and the landscape of how we interact and perceive each other.

With the exception of LinkedIn, I have decided to leave Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, among others. It can feel like it amplifies divisions and makes it harder to find common ground. The rapid spread of information and opinions, combined with the ability to curate our feeds to echo our beliefs, can create echo chambers and magnify conflicts.

It's refreshing to have a perspective on the importance of accepting differing viewpoints and focusing on commonalities rather than differences. There's value in engaging with people who have different opinions and finding areas of agreement.

The challenge with social media is that it can make it easier to focus on the negatives and to quickly disconnect from those who disagree with us, rather than fostering meaningful dialogue. The key might be to use these platforms more thoughtfully and intentionally, seeking to bridge gaps rather than widen them.

Standards are important, and maintaining boundaries with those who are unkind or hateful is crucial for personal well-being. Striking a balance between upholding one’s values and being open to diverse perspectives is something many people are grappling with in this digital age.

Our view highlights the importance of nurturing real, authentic connections and being mindful of how technology shapes our interactions. It’s a valuable reminder that while social media has its downsides, we can still strive to use it in ways that promote understanding and respect.

Social media is new relative to history, and maybe we are merely finding our way, but we do not believe that in today's world, its usefulness to humans outweighs its damage to society.

This is our point of view. Maybe you have a different opinion. If you do, that's ok with me too.
