The jefe, Henry "Enrique" Tarrio was an American activist, former FBI informant, and convicted felon. He serves as chairman of the Proud Boys, a far-right, neo-fascist, and exclusively male organization that promotes and engages in political violence in the United States. Tarrio was convicted on May 4, 2023, on seditious conspiracy charges, along with three other Proud Boys leaders, for his role in the 2021 United States Capitol attack.
Tarrio is of Afro-Cuban descent and served as the Florida state director of the grassroots organization Latinos for Trump. In 2020, Tarrio was a candidate in the Republican primary election for Florida's 27th congressional district but withdrew. According to a former federal prosecutor and the transcripts of a 2014 federal court proceeding, Tarrio had previously served as an informant to both federal and local public safety officials.

Five far-right Proud Boys, including former leader Enrique Tarrio, faced decades in prison after being found guilty for their role in the January 6 US Capitol riot.
At the end of the trial four were convicted of seditious conspiracy, and all five were found guilty of obstructing official proceedings, alongside other felonies.
