In April of 1970, the National Archives accessioned its first electronic records: data from computer punch cards.
Their holdings of federal records, not including electronic holdings in the Presidential Libraries, include over 100 terabytes of electronic records and another 100 terabytes of born-digital photography and motion pictures.
They accept more than 60 types of electronic records and file formats, ranging from email to webpages to geospatial data records to meeting presentations.
This is a card puncher, an integral part of the tabulation system used by the United States Census Bureau to compile the thousands of facts gathered by the Bureau. Holes are punched in the card according to a prearranged code transferring the facts from the census questionaire into statistics.
