In the past few months, the world has experienced too many airline disasters and the year is far from over. Lets hope there will not be any more midair terrorist incidents.

According a United Nations report, missiles known as MANPADS, short for Man-Portable Air Defense Systems may not have the long range of the weapon that shot down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Ukraine. However, these been described as a game changer, a traveler's our worst nightmare and an unprecedented threat.

Why? They are affordable, portable and devastating to low-flying planes, if used by terrorists. Statistics indicate that since 1975, they've hit civilian aircraft 40 times, killing about 800 people. And the worst part is that they are found everywhere. As many as 750,000 MANPADS are stockpiled around the world.
