Event: The Deadline Club Workshop Series: The Challenges of Copyright in the Digital Age

When do you need copyright permission, and how do you get it? Get answers to questions like these at The Deadline Club’s copyright workshop with Christopher Kenneally of The Copyright Clearance Center, a global rights broker for a variety of media, from newspapers and movies to blogs and ebooks. He produces a weekly podcast about the changing media landscape, “Beyond the Book,” http://beyondthebookcast.com/, and travels the country giving educational workshops. This event is free for members of The Deadline Club. Non-members may purchase tickets for $10. Refreshments will be served at a reception, beginning at 6:30pm. Event: 2012 APME Journalism Excellence Awards

The 2012 Associated Press Media Editors Journalism Excellence Awards will honor superior journalism and innovation among newspapers, radio, television and online news sites across the United States and Canada. The APME awards seek to promote excellence by recognizing work that is well written and incisively reported and that effectively challenges the status quo. This year, innovation-award categories have been added for radio, television and college students. In addition, the online convergence category has been retooled. The new digital storytelling award recognizes print-online combinations that draw on data visualization, social media, video and/or blogs in presenting a story. All awards are presented for journalism published or launched between July 1, 2011, and April 30, 2012.
