Bright's Dark Truths

BARDA Director; Deputy Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Washington, District Of Columbia, USA

When anyone pays close attention to Dr. Rick Bright Testimony on Coronavirus Pandemic Response, they will learn the real deal.

Dr. Bright is no dummy like some others who clutter the media landscape. We all know who they are and what they do, or don't know how to. Impactful, practical, and innovative leader. Hyper-focused on improving healthcare (medicines, tools, quality, and access), reaching the unreachable, ensuring that everyone, everywhere has access to lifesaving medicines when and where they need them. An experienced leader in the pharmaceutical, biotech, government administration, and global NGOs with a demonstrated history of bridging each culture through strong, flexible, and forward-leaning public-private-partnerships. Proven ability to establish and expand partnerships that have tangible results, most importantly, new FDA-approved and marketed medicines and tools to detect, protect, mitigate and treat people from multiple infectious disease and chemical, biological, nuclear, and radiological threats.

Rick Bright, was the recent director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) who filed a whistleblower complaint alleging he was forced out of his job, testified before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health. Mr. Bright told lawmakers he believed his reassignment to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was retaliation for his resistance to broadening the use of hydroxychloroquine without the proper safeguards in place. Mr. Bright criticized the Trump administration’s response to coronavirus pandemic, saying the country lacked a coordinated strategy. “Without better planning, 2020 could be the darkest winter in modern history,” he warned. The former BARDA director also said his warnings about the lack of personal protective equipment in the strategic national stockpile went unheeded.

The most remarkable part of Rick Bright's congressional testimony: His claims about the federal government's lack of COVID-19 preparedness went largely uncontested. Dr. Rick Bright Testimony on Coronavirus Pandemic Response @CSPAN
